If you live in the north, you can grow it in a container. You will love its versatility as a summer patio plant while brightening your home for the winter. Fragrant white blooms in winter fill your house with a delicious, sweet scent which is followed by petite key limes. The tree is evergreen with lush green foliage, so it will be a handsome addition to any room with a sunny window. When grown in a container, the Key Lime Tree will not get taller than 8 feet. Planted in the ground, it can grow up to 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide, and be sure to protect it from the frost since it is very tender to cold temperatures. Give your new lime tree good drainage and quality fertilizer for better fruit production.

Provide your Key Lime tree with full sun and well-drained soil. Citrus trees prefer humid environments, but like their roots to dry out between waterings. Whether in a container or the ground, water when the soil has dried out down to about 2 inches and be sure your plant is not sitting in water. Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer when planting and in early spring and late summer. Prune anytime for shape and size maintenance. Key Lime Trees grow in zones 8b to 11. Otherwise, it must be grown in containers. It will not tolerate freezing temperatures.

Key Lime Trees are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Key Lime Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop.
